According to Ancient Greek mythology, a ketos denotes a large fish, a whale, a shark, or a sea monster. While the origins of this creatures name is form the Mediterranean, it’s true origin is actually form the waters surrounding Scotland, which it where Calder’s heritage dwells. Ketea (pl.) are carnivorous, with their diet manly consisting of fish and some sea mammals, but due to events unknown, when Calder was only an egg he washed up upon shore and was found by a fisherman. This fisherman thought he had found a great treasure, for the eggs of a ketos are luminous and resemble pearls, thus the egg was sold to a rich plantation owner sometime during the early 1800s.
The egg was displayed within a glass case, upon a cushion, but have it be known that the plantation owner had two sons, twins, who were notorious for trouble and it came that one day one of the boys stole the pearl from its cushion and decided that it would be the most humorous to throw it into the lake on the grounds of the estate. The pearl was lost, the boy beaten, and years past only the estate would befall under the darkness of evil, the brothers turned into servants of this evil, and the egg which had laid dormant, needing years to actually hatch, did so un the cover of this evil.
The ketos was born; a creature tainted by this evil and grew quickly under the care of the Inhabitants, whom they affectionately named Calder. This bipedal beast of the deep has gills to survive under water but it also has the capacity to breathe air, if only for a short time. Thus meaning, it can hunt both in land and in water and while its ancestral diet was of fish, this particular ketos has grown on the diet of… human blood.
Calder stands at about the height of an average human, is humanoid in shape, but has the appearance of a cliché science-fiction monster of some lagoon. He’s swift and agile in water, being able to move in silence or disrupting the water, but on land the creature is more clumsy and slower, but can still run as fast as a human, but only for short sprints. He has webbing for speed, razor sharp rows of teeth like that of a shark, and had claws as long as pencil: long and sharp, excellent for spear fishing. On his backs are bio-luminescent spots, designed for the true depth that this species typically lives in, so in the much shallower environment of the Baudeau’s Lake, these spots are a slight disadvantage for Calder, the only lucky break his prey will get form this savage creature.
This creature is a personal favourite to the Inhabitants and only they have discovered that the creature’s weakness is that extended periods away from waters weakens Calder, causing the creature to fall into a sort of hibernation, making him completely vulnerable, Like many creatures, this beast can be cut, shot, or electrocuted, but his thicker skin and scales makes his skin more resilient to blades.
