GENERAL
• Follow the basic Terms of Service of Proboards. We realize that very few people have read them through all the way, but they're mostly common sense.
• Please take it easy on the foul languages and give respect to each other on this board. Obviously characters like Romano and Prussia have foul mouths, but that doesn't mean to go crazy with it--even if it's in another language.
• When in doubt, PM one of the staff members [Turkey/Portugal, England/Prussia, Scotland]. They will be happy to help with anything~
• Please put forum games and spam in the general board.
• This should be obvious, but limit cursing in the chatbox as well as inappropriate behavior, be it OOC or chatplaying. If it isn't done or said in a PG-14 movie, it will not be acceptable in the chatbox.
• Regarding chatplay in the chatbox, please only roleplay as the character you play on the forum. Having multiples of one character can be fun, but also may cause problems since the IC chat is its own canon. Please do not join in the IC chatbox until your application has been accepted.
• Another little reminder about the chatbox: We have an in-character chatbox on the right where all sorts of shenanigans can take place. Please keep RPs in the correct chatbox and limit the amount of OOC talk within the IC chatbox. Also, in-character statements do not necessarily reflect the views of the roleplayer.
• To avoid upsetting or offending other members please keep topics such as politics, religion, controversial world news, etc. out of the chatbox. These are matters better discussed in private chat.
• When we goof around and roleplay in the chatbox, it is understood that nothing that occurs in it affects the actual roleplay. In fact, the house in chatbox "canon" is not the Manor at all, so please keep the events separate in order to avoid confusion.
• Keep your avatar images (and all images you post on Manor of Fate) PG! Hugs and kisses are all right; no nudity or highly implied sexual content of any kind is allowed. A first violation will result in a warning from administrators and a second violation will result in banning.
• Please don't ask to be a mod. If a thread is set up asking for help, then feel free to apply, but don't PM an admin saying, "I've been here for <time period> and I want to be a mod."
• The first and second violations of any of these rules will result in a warning from an administrator and a third violation will result in banning.
ROLEPLAYING
• This goes without saying, but no god-modding. The staff reserve the right to delete or ask for editing on any posts where it appears this is happening.
• When posting, there is a 300 word minimum. Instant replies aren't expected, so please take a little time to correct any errors and make sure it is of a sufficient length.
• No killing another person's character unless you have their permission. (This does not include NPC monsters and during special events)
• Grammar is your friend and please sure to put effort into your posts. We're not asking for perfection, just a basic understanding of grammar and spelling.
• Please do your best to remain in-character. There are such things as different interpretations, and we encourage expanding the character, but please refer to the basic characterizations put in place by Hima.
• Due to the inconsistent flow of time in the manor, your character may be in multiple threads at once. They do not necessarily have to interconnect, nor do they have to get lost or leave one of their threads to start a new one.
• This is a PG-14 forum by default. To comply with the Proboards Terms of Service, R-rated threads (essentially, anything with sex) are strictly prohibited. We deal with a lot of heavy concepts in the Manor, so we ask of mature individuals that can handle these topics to RP here.
•Strike Rule. We have had members join, drop, rejoin, drop, etc, in the past and it’s caused a reasonable amount of discussion between staff members, which is why we all agreed to this rule: You may ‘drop’ MoF and rejoin only 3 times in total. This means you can join, rejoin, and rejoin once more before we will not allow you to reapply again. It hurts when people leave, return, then leave, then return, then leave and it’s hard to follow. If you leave 3 times, you don’t appear to not want to stay with MoF so you will unfortunately not be able to return.
SIGNING UP**PROFILES MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF CHARACTER RESERVATION!**
• When you sign up for a character please use the template. You may add more details than is required if you wish, but make sure you fill out everything we require.
• If you do not finish your profile by its due date, it will be moved to the "late profiles" category. From then you will have three days to finish it before your character is officially opened again. Others are allowed to reserve that character ahead of time during the three-day period in case the previous applicant fails to be completed during the late period.
• Though it should be needless to say, please put effort into your profiles. We don't expect an extensive biography, but let us know you have some understanding of the character and country.
• Please do avoid making or setting your display name as a 'proper country' i.e. Norway, Ukraine, Sweden, etc.
Edit: Due to the new skin you can no longer make your name the country without an uppercase letter, i.e. canada, since on the mini profiles it will display it uppercase causing confusion. When accepted a staff member will change your name to the proper country, so to avoid confusion wait until being accepted. Apologies for any confusion.
• Also, only people who are actually members are able to post on the site. While you are allowed to reserve without an account we would prefer you make an account before you reserve. This means that anyone who is simply looking at the site, visitors, and people who have signed up but haven't reserved a character should not be participating in Members Only threads and boards.
• OCs are allowed, but only for countries. No cities, states, provinces, or made-up countries. There are plenty of choices, so don't worry. However: keep in mind that these OCs need to be based on the stereotypes and cultures of the countries; doing a little research is suggested.
• Concerning the process of creating a character, especially concerning OCs, MoF Staff encourage and look out for cultural references that are relevant and define a character, for instance: a character may really like to celebrate and party because their country has the highest number of festivals. However, a simple word of caution about some touchy topics like religion for instance. Staff are aware that religion, and politics too of course, are huge factors in many if not all countries, but these are sensitive topics for many people so we advise to avoid basing a character around religion and/or delving into the topic too far so that a country's persona is not defined solely by their religious factors. This does not mean characters cannot be religious just there needs to be more to them, and what makes them who they are than religion.
• Genderbends are not permitted, as they are technically not countries and can cause some problems in non-AU roleplays. It would be too confusing having two different people represent each country.
• If you wish to drop a current character for another character, please contact a member of staff and say which character you are dropping. Wait until you receive a reply, then you may reserve the new character.
• No more than two canon characters per person. Additionally, you may have up to two OCs.[You may have four characters maximum.]
• There is a Post Minimum for current members who wish to take on additional charactersSecond Character Requirements
OCs and Canon Characters: 15 IC posts
Third Character Requirements
25 IC posts with each accountFourth Character Requirements
50 IC posts with each character
*Please note: The Post Minimum is only affected by actual thread posts, aka In Character (IC) posts, not posts in general. If a member wishes to reserve another character, an Administrator will check to see if the member meets these requirements before the reserve can be approved. If the requirement has not been reach a staff member will inform you how many more posts are needed to reach the requirement.
• You must make more than one account in order to use multiple characters. The character that was accepted under the account should be the only one the account is used for.
• If a person has reserved a nation, possibly posted a WIP app, or not, but then their reserve has expired, that person would then be UNABLE to reserve that particular nation for a period of a week. This is to discourage a person from holding up a nation without a clear intention to follow through with their reserve and produce a complete app, thus making it unfair for another person to reserve said character.
Ancients
Before modern maps were drawn, the borders of countries determined, the globe was a very different place ruled by mighty empires and formidable regions. These were the Ancients, the parents, ancestors, or grandparents of many of the present-day Nations, who have found themselves all to be trapped in the Manor, out of reach from their fallen parental Ancients.
Or so they thought...
•The great and truly unfathomable power of the evil entity, known simply as "The Master", the Baudeau Manor itself, has stretched its influence straight into the many minds of its 'guests', the countries, to discover the existence of these mighty Ancients, and using these stolen memories The Manor has used its power to literally draw out the Fallen Nations from that other place to bestow upon them the same hospitality as it had done to the modern-nations, humanity.
•Within the walls of the Baudeau Manor, Ancients now find themselves trapped under the Manor's power, of flesh and bone, able to feel, interact, bleed, and are dressed as they were in life, not having much or any knowledge as to what has had happened to them but thankfully all Ancients are able to recognize their descendants.
•If you are planning on taking on an Ancient, you may find a list of possibilities within the Character/Reserve List, however this list is not the extent we may allow, meaning if you by chance have another unlisted Ancient in mind, simply state you claim and reasons in your Reservation Post and a staff member will decide if the Ancient is acceptable. The definitions of playable Ancients are: either former fallen empires or regions where present-day nations gain their culture, ancestry, language, etc; (i.e. Ancient Rome the ancestor of modern Italy).
•Having trouble finding pictures or choosing an Ancient? Look here for some inspiration, because the artist is amazing if you browse they're gallery.Concerning Theft/Plagiarism of Applications
• While this has only been a rare occurrence in the past, in no way is it treated lightly because of this. Just as plagiarizing and claiming another's work as your own is highly disapproved in school and alike, so also is it here on MoF!
**If a person is caught plagiarizing, penalties can be as severe as the deletion of the application, the banning of the member, their IP address, and the prohibition from reserving on MoF in the future.**
~If the thief/accused wishes to argue/plead their case, the staff will of course listen as we are reasonable and we understand that mistakes can be made.
Important Side Note: Staff members are just as human as you, the members, meaning we don't patrol other sites and are constantly on the look out for similarities between applications, which means we need YOUR HELP! MoF is a family, a team, and it takes all of us to recognize if there might be something amiss so if a member thinks they have reason to accuse another of theft, please don't hesitate to PM one of the staff and the case shall be investigated and no judgements will be passed upon the concerned member.
Character "Magic"
In the interest of following the ideas of HetaOni, which the site is loosely based on, and realism with the nations at the same time, not all nations can use magic. However, these powers are very limited and no member is allowed to godmod, even with magic. If you believe your nation should be able to use magic and can give a reason that makes historical sense based on the character (not simply "there are a lot of magicians in my country"), then it will be considered. If the staff have agreed to allow your country magic powers make sure to list the abilities in detail within the application to give staff an idea of what you intend to have the character do with their magic. Staff, even after giving permission to have magic powers, can deny your character the powers you listed in the application. Feel free to talk to staff about the requested powers before adding them to an application to assure they will be approved.Characters Eligible for Magic:England

The Sanctuary
- A character may not post in the sanctuary until an admin has granted them permission to enter: this is in the form of a floating key These keys can be found (usually as an event prize), or presented to a character by an Inhabitant/monster. Once the character touches the key, it will zoom off without stopping and the character will have to chase the key if they dare not to lose it as it will fly towards the Sanctuary, which may be hidden on any floor, the current location will be given to you by an admin.
- Keys will not wait for their owners so a member cannot have their character go off and find friends to join them once the key is released, or else it will be lost. It is up to the member what thread the decide to release the key in.
- Monsters cannot go into the sanctuary.
- The sanctuary is fully stocked with food, has ten beds for resting, and even contains a first-aid kit.
- The sanctuary never stays in one place for very long; if your character has already visited it, do not expect them to be able to find it again so easily.
- If a member inside the Sanctuary feels that they can simply open the door to let others inside with them, think again. Open the door, and all within the Sanctuary will be ejected out of it by a mighty wind, and the door that lead to the Sanctuary will cease to be its portal, for the Sanctuary would have moved to another location.
- Members only have a limit of about three In Character/ Roleplay days within the Sanctuary, before being ejected and the room will move to another location and they will be once more at the wrath of the Manor.
MONSTERS
• Monsters are controlled by staff members.
• Monsters can be in as many threads as they want at any given time. For instance, Monster A could be in two threads at once because of the time distortion in the manor; however, there can only be one monster in a thread at once.
• Unlike members, monsters ARE ALLOWED TO GOD-MOD. Meaning, they can assume they hit a character, or grabbed them or whatever, without implying it and leaving it up to the player they attacked. Monsters can also come into threads and kill players WITHOUT PERMISSION, so be cautious when you request one! However, it is expected that this power is not unjustly abused. Monsters are very strong and are likely to have the upper hand on your character. Tread lightly when around them!
• Monsters can come and go from threads as they wish meaning even without having requested one they may appear without warning.
*Please note! Just because the monsters have weaknesses that are located in their personal profile does not mean that the countries automatically know them if they are confronted by them! Countries must "learn" through posts and actions/reactions to figure out a monsters weakness and they may not! The hard truth is is that in this site, countries can die! It's all apart of the plot and if you have any questions regarding monster fighting, PM any of the administrators and they will gladly help
• If a member succeeds in killing/slaying a monster, they will receive a "title" that will be available on their profiles {Ex. "Widow-Maker Slayer"}
• If you wish to have a monster in your thread, feel free to make a request. They have a right to decline, though, if they are busy or if the thread doesn't appear active.
• There are actually four different kinds of "monsters" that are housed in the Manor.~The first being traditional monsters. These various creatures vary in difficulty level, as well as weaknesses, strengths, tactics, etc. if encountered by a monster, make sure you read about them in their personal profile if you wish to have a chance to defeat the monster.
~The second are demons. Now, demons are extremely difficult to defeat because they cannot be killed, only another demon can kill a demon. This fact, as well that demons are forced to follow certain "demon laws," your best bet to overcoming them is to read their profiles.
~ The third type are Event Special monsters. Now, these monsters may be guides, opponents, executioners, etc. These monsters depend on the particular Event so they may or may not be able to be killed.
~ The fourth and final type are ghosts (the lost spirits inhabiting the manor).
In the Manor, not all ghosts are evil but that is entirely up to the members because ghosts are all member controlled through posting.
-Ghosts, like monsters, are allowed a little godmodding.
-They may switch between being tangible and intangible as they choose. In other words, they can walk through walls one moment then make themselves solid the next.
-Unlike the ghosts of the living nations, they will not become corrupted by the evil aura of the manor, because they are probably already evil.
• If a member(s) succeeds in killing a monster, they will be rewarded by one of the Inhabitants. The rewards vary and can be good or bad.
DEATH
Yes, in Manor of Fate, your character can die! That doesn't mean he or she is out for the count, however! While the nations are simply human in the Manor, the mysterious, magical power of the building does not condemn them to eternal rest at their "death."
Ghost threading is OPTIONAL for members who die a Normal Thread Death meaning this does not include deaths during Events.
It is a great way to rack in some IC posts to reach Post Requirements for sought out new OC/headcanon characters
~Note** Even though Ghost Threading is now optional, a character must still die somehow in order to be able to do one, meaning they cannot do a random Ghost Thread just because they feel like it.
~Members can still make new threads elsewhere even while doing a Ghost Thread!
Life as a Ghost* To begin a ghost thread, the now Dead character could awake and find himself/herself as a ghost somewhere in the Manor with little recollection of where he/she is and who they are, if you want, or they could have all their memories.
- When/if a character is killed in a thread (by a monster, another character, or by some other method), the member will need to ASK an Admin for the required text if they wish to do a Ghost Thread.
* If a a member chooses the amnesia route, over time, he/she will begin to remember things, especially if they run into any of the other nations.
* Said character will be joined upon awaking by one of the Inhabitants, who will happily assist them in their newly discovered 'ghost world'. These reapers are servants to the Manor itself, and while their Master is pleased to see the member has died, the Inhabitants are there to aid the members back to their bodies so they can be alive once more. Why? So they can die all over again in a sick, bloody, tortuous cycle, all for the Master's dark amusement. (This Inhabitant meeting will be the informative text provided by an admin upon request).
[/font]*Also Note* If members are Ghosts but they wish to join a new event, they may. Because Events occur separately than regular threading, we will accept this. If the member wins a Prize from their Event, they WILL receive it until they have finished their Ghost Thread.
* PROS: Though dead, a character can still be an asset to the living characters: they can warn of danger ahead or check to see if the coast is clear and can fight other ghosts while being immune to monsters, for example. Ghost members can chose the extent of their tangibility, meaning for instance that they can go through walls and also are able to say, touch a person. (Be careful not to godmod!)
* CONS: However, there are a few drawbacks to being a ghost: Only his/her close friends and family are able to see and hear him/her, and if they remains too long in their ghost form, he/she will begin to become corrupt and turn into one of the evil spirits of the Manor.
* If , by chance, as a ghost a nation kills another nation, that's it. Said nation will be be forcefully return to their grave, so they regain all of their memories ALONG WITH the knowledge that they just killed a fellow nation.GHOST THREADING IS SUPPOSED TO BE TEMPORARY ONLY* There is however an allowance of THREE GHOST THREAD per dead character, this is not to say one Ghost Thread period, just three for each time a character dies.
**IF a member feels the need to want to do more, these new threads will be subjected to the REAPER ROULETTE.The Reaper RouletteWhat is this?
*The Reaper Roulette is only applicable to characters who engage in more than three Ghost Thread.
* Basically what will happen is that in each new Ghost thread, an Inhabitant will appear and by a means of chance, literally the roll of a die, it will be decided whether or not the Inhabitant will FORCE the Ghost nation to kill the nation they are threading with.. Yeah, that's right, IF A MEMBER DECIDES TO DO MORE THAN ONE GHOST THREAD THEY COULD BE FORCED TO KILL ANOTHER NATION. No ifs, ands, or buts too.
* If it is determined that the member WILL be forced to kill, they will become a puppet of the Inhabitant, unable to tell anyone what is going on. After the possession has resulted in the death of the other nation, at this point, the Ghost Nation will be returned to their grave with the full knowledge of what they have done, thus the end of the Ghost Thread!
To Return to the World of the Living...
- Only one thing can be done to come back to life-- the Ghost Nation must go and find his/her own grave.Though the cemetery in the courtyard appears small to the living, when a lost soul enters it, in actuality, it is immensely vast. They will know which grave he/she rests in, because lying just in front of each gravestone will be his/her national flower. (A.K.A. Why members must provide a national flower in their Applications!)
- The ghost Nation will experience a tugging sensation, pulling them down, and he/she will find himself to again be in his/her own body, memories completely restored!
- Once the nation has found their grave and have descended into it, this will mark the End of the Ghost thread, and now that character has the wonderful memory of being dead to plot and suffer from in future threads!
Methods To Do a "Ghost Thread"
- *To be a ghost in thread form, members have a couple of options how to thread, but all threads will be greeted by an Inhabitant who will instruct the new ghost of their new supernatural realm! (But, don't rely to do an entire thread one-on-one with an Inhabitant... they have better things to do than chat):
*Members can do a solo thread, more like a journal or diary.
*Members can do a single, long form post detailing their solo adventures of wondering through the Manor. This form however we expect should be longer because essentially, it's a sort of memoir/short story, so there is a word minimum of 2000 words. (For members interested in this form, PM an admin who will supply you with the necessary dialogue of an Inhabitant for your in-post encounter)
*Members may choose, following their Inhabitant encounter, to thread with fellow alive members. Recall however, only family and close friends of the deceased will be able to see them and also that the ghost's memories of them will be slim at best in the beginning. **This DOES NOT mean however that the ghost character can just hang out with their family forever.
*Members may choose, if they wish, to thread with a fellow ghost! That's right, if two or more people are dead all at the same time there is nothing wrong with you joining up to look for your graves together.
For answers to any or all questions, please don't hesitate to contact any of the administrators.
[li style="font-size:small;"]There seems to be a lot of rules huh? Well, in truth this site is not too hard to follow, though there can be some "mature" content because of the whole "killing" theme. Be careful with this! We like graphic, but take into consideration that there are younger members about. Once more, if there are any questions, please feel free to ask any admin, we're here to help, after all. Now that you have reached the end, for we are sure that you have read everything and have a firm grasp on things, now there is only only question that is left remaining to be asked... What is your favorite song? Put the song title as your answer. Good luck![/li][/ul][/blockquote]
