Unlike other rooms, the ballroom was unexpectedly filled with light – an eerie light that shone through enormous windows, but no matter. It was quite beautiful, Ciel mused to herself, glancing around. After some internal debate, she supposed it would be alright if she shut her flashlight off for a while as she lingered in the spacious room; it would be best to conserve the battery. A part of her wanted to keep the flashlight on, as she never knew what lurked in the few shadows while another believed the battery would soon fail and she’d be worse off. In any case, she was extremely paranoid with any decision she made. But she couldn’t afford to be caught off guard.
Ciel gazed around the relatively well-lit room, taking in its creeping serenity and its somehow darkened brilliance. It was so contradictory, but somehow it felt right. Two halves made a whole, she thought to herself. And she then proceeded to ponder; does that even apply to this situation? but soon found her attention captured by the tiled floor. There were carefully carved inscriptions, seemingly dancing along the whole area.
Her eyes followed the curves and lines, trailing along with a small spark of interest. They seemed familiar in a way, and Ciel wondered if she had seen them somewhere before. That was most likely the case. She strained and searched her mind for any hint of why she thought she might have recognized it, but it was to no avail.
Why is it, of all times, I choose to forget now? It could have been important! Ciel shouted internally, which proved useless to accomplish anything. It didn’t even help to try and release some of the pent up frustration she felt. Sometimes, she just wanted to scream and not care who heard.
This was just one of those times.
